Let’s find a way home from this “Holiday”
This song came from a bleak feeling, on a day when nothing seemed right. I was leading a group of songwriters through an exercise of writing a new “holiday” song, and a day arrived on which nothing in the world made any sense. That was Nov. 6, 2024. You can guess what the news media was sharing.
My need to write about the doubts and fears swirling in my head led to the first draft of this very non-holiday “Holiday” song. I re-wrote it to steer towards a hopefulness of getting through scary times alongside friends who know us well enough to be the steady rock we need. If you’re having a day, and feeling unsure or unsteady, call a friend and talk it out.
The song was released to YouTube and BandCamp on January 20th, yes, on inauguration day for the current sitting U.S. President.
The song was subsequently released to all streaming platforms on February 20th.
