Music from the film “Leroy Silk Unmuted”

Released:  April 2023

Allister has composed music for several short films, usually films directed by his friend Peter Szabo (Possibility Films).  Beginning in 2018, Allister and Peter were working toward plans for a feature-length film which would follow the career arc of fictional American artist Leroy Silk.  Production on the film was stalled by a handful of factors, not the least of which was the eventual coming of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.  Pivoting with the pandemic, Peter rewrote the script to facilitate shooting a short version of the film in lockdown, using actors on two different continents and making the most of internet video chat tools.

The film centers on Leroy, a post-major label career musician whose days of arena tours across the U.S. are a distant memory.  Though he still has a loyal following of patrons and performs to them regularly over livestream, Leroy hasn’t had the confidence to release new music in years.  All of that is about to change…

Leroy Silk Unmuted released publicly on April 30th, 2023.  See below for a link to view the film.

For the task of writing a selection of hits from Leroy’s back catalog, Allister and Sean Bertram worked together and presented several ideas to Peter.  Once “the sound of Leroy Silk” was agreed upon, Allister and Sean completed the songs for the film and began recording Leroy’s studio releases.  Actor/musician Brady Power provided the voice of Leroy Silk, singing a pair of the tunes remotely to Allister’s studio and performing all of the songs with guitar in hand for the shooting of the film.  Allister and Sean completed the soundtrack by recording studio versions of two more of Leroy’s songs (the ones which didn’t need a studio version for inclusion in the film).
